The eygptian light bulb

In some ways me being off on two consecutive Thursdays has still been productive. For the whole time I was watching what ever rubbish was on TV. There was a documentary about "If we are alone in the universe?" and instead of being one that said yeah there could be life , but this guy says no.
It showed some proof and the "for" argument was based on this drawing, I found it fascinating. They used vases filled with vinegar and using two metals - copper and tin they produced a current. And they showed that it actually worked on the doc. So whilst we were hacking away at our sticks in caves the Egyptians had already began to invent blu-ray....

Skins trailer- the representation of the youth

I chose a trailer of skins which was 1 minute long, showing a house party in full swing.

The trailer had only non diagetic sound which only one song was played throughout the whole clip. It was fast paced, with drums, guitars and synthesizers playing throughout sounding very modern and electronic – something which young people would listen to. Therefore the music represented young people.

The fast beat worked well with the editing of the trailer which was a fast paced montage of clips and made the whole trailer flow – the longest clip in the trailer was about 4 seconds. So the cutting was quick, disjointed and random e.g. Shots of people dancing, kissing or taking drugs. Not one cut followed through with the other cut. There are also shots of generally youthful behaviour: people having foam and water gun fights, there is a shot of a teen riding around on a tricycle with wacky glasses laughing and someone is dressed up as a teddy bear. There are kiddie like items used in conjunction with adult or supposed to be adult actions like taking drugs, smoking and drinking. This represents the teens in the middle of this transition from childhood to adulthood. It almost seemed like the fast paced blur of images would be what you would see if you were in a party and were drunk – this represents youth in the way that they are mainly stereotyped into drinking too much and being disorganized – like the editing.

The camera does only one establishing shot which was a high angle was shot showing the whole room – the shot shows the room of the house filled to the brim with people dancing, throwing pillows and standing on tables – showing the freedom, fun and immaturity of youth. All the camera work apart from that establishing shot is done from eye line height or from a point of view as if you were a person watching it all happen. Some of the clips shown have a bright light highlighting the detail they want the audience to pick up on i.e. There are pills on a table with hands scrabbling from them - this is shown with an extreme close up and the light which picks up the pills – adding shock. But to me it also seems like the same light you would see in a camera flash. Like party photos from Facebook. Where some of the photos taken are tilted, a close up of someone’s dazzled face or overly bright flashes but it is like instead of a photo the whole thing was filmed. There are also strobe lights used to produce the same effect. This adds to the chaotic, frenzied and hyperactive atmosphere of the party trailer and represents youths as being hyperactive, juvenile and irresponsible.

Youth is shown to be loud, carefree and energetic from the clothes that they all wear. The boys tend to wear relatively bright clothes, mainly t-shirts and sunglasses. However some are just wearing bright skinny jeans to nothing but y-fronts. The same implies to the girls who are over made up, wearing bright clothing, or wearing something like a brightly coloured bikini with jeans. They all seem to have wet messed up hair; probably from the water fight; sweat or spilt drinks.

One thing noticed about their clothing is that it all stood out with this bright light constantly on them and made the background colours of the furniture , carpet and wallpaper seem rather bland. The teenagers seemed to stand out even more so, this makes the audience focus on the teenagers and also making a their actions seem more extreme and exaggerated.

Towards the end of the seen we the irresponsibility of youth shine out as we see a large amount of people being sick or about to be, people arguing and breaking vases and glasses.

At the end there is a close up of the main characters all passed out which then zooms out to see the rest of the party group also in the same situation with a heartbeat sound effect playing. This shows how they are all still children and them being asleep shows how they are also still vulnerable even though they want to drink and party.

The Duddy Magnus

I enjoyed doing the continuity test. The test was simple enough you film a person walking into a room - opening a door - entering the room sitting down talking to a person and then they leave. But when I started filming all these ideas of shots and cuts just flooded into my head. I started to really enjoy what I was doing, i began to find interesting angles to put the camera and had loads of fun just filming. There was a certain you had to adibe to: you can't cross the line - or else it would seem as if the character you are filming has jumped across.

I should have gone somewhere sunny :( / Media Diary 9

I really really wish i went somewhere this half term, to be honest the past week has been me doing pretty much nothing, just vegetating in front of a TV waiting for someone to call or respond to a text I sent seeing if they were free. Problem is, everyone else has gone somewhere sunny, and I'm left with nothing to do, okay i have been out a lot this half term, but no where near the amount i expected myself to do. Then on comes DOE and another load of people disappear. This half term has been rather well bland, just leaving a rather okay taste in your social pallet and then goes off to Majorca to be with everyone else..

Media Consumption has been pretty much TV, Internet, Ipod and Xbox 360. Oh and that really cool advert for that new mall, can't remember what its called but yeah.

Media Diary 8 and flu.

Monday started off as any normal morning - GMTV i then went on the bus and listened to my Ipod for the journey and during school watched and analysed Yasmin and the mise en scene in some extracts. After school i watched some programmes I'd recorded - Never mind the Buzz cocks and Mock the week and some other programmes in between. It was then i realised that i had quite a viscous headache and sore throat so i retired to bed at about 10 - o clock.

The Tuesday was again the same pretty much as Monday - except this time i went to bed at 9 - 0 clock due to a roaring temperature.

From Wednesday to the Friday morning i was in bed, slipping in and out of sleep and only waking up to eat - the television i did watch was normal boring day-time TV slob: The Jeremy Kyle show, Judge Judy, repeats of Stargate or Bones and any other rubbish that Sky regurgitated on its many many channels - there was simply nothing on worth watching. It makes me realise how scammy sky is. - apart the single perk that when something good comes on and your going to miss it - you can record it. Why is there nothing to watch on so many channels? is it just me?

Three weeks in.....

The past three weeks have probably been the most fun I have probably had at school since Nursey were you played with Lego and were occasionally asked to spell "Duck" until your heart was content.

All the new people who have come into the school have simply now melted into the rest of Year 12 and it is hard to tell apart new from old, eveybody is so nice to one another. :)

This informal teaching and conversation with the teachers is something which has made me actually look forward to school that little bit more. As well as, of course, the "Free's" we get. As the homework hasn't hit us hard yet most people are actually finding a Free boring - it was the case for me today about 45 minutes into my 1 hr 15 min free I actually caught myself thinking "I'm bored - when does geography start?"

I now love the way homework is handled - especially in Media Studies - a simple E-mail to Mr. V or Mrs. F will surfice, and finally! Some people in this school who actually know how to enlarge a screen on Youtube without logging off their computer.

The Media Diaries we are doing for Mr. V will seem interesting - at the end of year or two year period of Media Studies. However I do find myself putting "Do Media Diary!" at the top of a list and slowly watch as other homework slowly push this "To Do" all the way to the bottom of the priority pile.

This blog website is now begining to look it could belong to someone who knows what they're doing on this website and - just like the new facebook - will take some exploring to do before i get totally used to the site. One thing that could turn out to be tiresome is having to link everybody else's blogg one at a time. :(

I'm in "Reeves" and it couldn't be better - for me anyway. For House music we're doing "Alright" by "Supergrass" and I find that me and the rest of the year 12 are struggling even at singing in just one octave.

In Young Enterprise I left one group for another, call me a traitor, but i know who will actually work in this whole thing and I'm going to stick to the people who you can rely on to get the job done. What I then didn't expect is to then become co-MD of the whole 12 person group...this concerns me slightly.

I have a feeling I'm in for many nights spent with a pen in hand and the desk lamp still on at 11.30 at night. This year is going to be fun.

Media Studies - My first homework!

I don't really have a favorite film. I tend to love all the films I watch. But if I had to chose, I'd probably have to talk about the film called Snatch.

This film is one of the best rated films of people my age as well as other films: City of God, In Burgges to name a few; Guy Ritchie makes sure that the plot twists, turns and goes feet in the air in the fast paced action comedy.
The film follows a series of characters all linked to two issues, one them involving the characters Turkish and Tommy as they work for Brick Top to rig bare knuckle boxing fights to win money they’ve bet. Their main boxer hospitalized in a bare knuckle boxing fight against ‘One punch’ Mikey, so they are forced to use a wildcard Irish gypsy boxer. Unfortunately he proves to be unreliable as he refuses to “go down in the fourth” and so BrickTop the local kingpin has it in for the three of them.

The other story involves Sol, Vinny and a dog against Avi with his motley crew in the pursuit of “A diamond as big as your fist”. It sets out as normal run for ex-gambit Franky Four Fingers, diamond thief and courier, who is tempted by Borris “the Blade” to participate in one of BrickTop’s rigged matches – pawnshop owners Vinny and Sol are told by Borris to rob Franky at the Bookies which then goes haywire when Avi finds out that Franky has been robbed.

The plot is cleverly written, both of the stories are mashed together as each cleverly overlaps the other and rollicks through the grimy underworld of gangster London. The characters enter as thick and fast as they exit all are on their own personal agendas and all of them are illegal.
The opening to the film is quick fire and illustrative introducing the characters in a situation that best shows off their personalities.

With Jason Statham (Turkish) narrating his story, the other plotline seems to be shunted out of the way most of the time. There is too much familiarity with its predecessor “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”. Even though Ritchie cleverly weaves the stories into one the writing can be cheesy at times, the comedy is plentiful and will have you rocking with laughter at some point or two.

In the begining....

So i've decide to begin blogging. Well, mainly because my teacher told to as coursework and examiners would look at it. But, I am still interested in it so as my first blog I'll tell you some things I'm interested [ i to may then add to my 'about me' ] so i'm going to try some things out...

Thats me, at a party dressed as a Mexican, the moustache is painted on but when i am blessed with facial hair i may decide to grow it like this... just a thought. --->

Unfortunately I have no pictures of my dog, as my laptop is very liable to crashing i tend to save my photo's on another computer.

Anyway I'll talk about what I'm interested in. Hey! Wouldn't it be fun if you were interested in the things i was in! :D
Then we could talk about things like- Drum and Base, the Kings of Leon, Gigs an stuff, Music in general, Films we've seen, Games consoles and all their may fun games - mainly the Xbox, Beer and fun and anything else which comes into mind.

I'm not really a sporty person, however i can play football, rugby, hockey, tennis, basketball and cricket reasonably well its never been the thing i crave - which at the moment is immersing myself in chocolate - no it's not really but that would be fun. :)

I'm more interested in Art, cartoons, doodling, acting, filming, photography and computer animation - (I would love to work for Pixar when I'm older) . But i really really really want to get into the media industry when I'm older. I did some work experience in summer 08 and i loved it!

I worked at this place in Slough called AVC productions- they sorted out events for large companies like BP and BA and Tescos they would supply the 50ft LED screens and then have a Digital Department produce what ever it is they needed. Think of what they do is like PowerPoint by a Million times better. So i went there and had a blast it was truly an... Experience! :)
